From Humble Beginnings to a Dream Realized

My journey into the world of car modification began not in a classroom, but amidst the grease and gears of FAPAUTO, my second home during my college years. As an engineering student at Rutgers University, life was a blur of late-night study sessions, exams, and the constant hustle to make ends meet. To afford both tuition and my growing passion for cars, I was working full-time at FAPAUTO, immersing myself in the world of engines, tools, and the constant hum of automotive innovation. It was a challenging time, but the shop became my sanctuary, a place where I could turn my theoretical knowledge into hands-on experience.

It was there, tucked away in a quiet corner, that I first laid eyes on her – a dusty, neglected Volvo V50. The paint was dull, the interior showed signs of water damage, and she was far from perfect. But beneath the surface, I sensed potential. This forgotten wagon, amidst the projects and customer cars, whispered promises of adrenaline, adventure, and the perfect sleeper build. It was love at first sight. 💖

1.Wiring Woes: Me, deep in the trenches, battling the notorious wiring gremlins that plagued the V50 from day one. This particular issue kept messing with the throttle body – a real headache! (Fapauto Days) 2. Engine Bay CPR: The V50's heart, exposed. A lot of parts are missing, but you can almost see the potential, right? This is where the magic (and a lot of hard work) happened to get the engine running. #ProjectCarLife 3. Homeward Bound: Finally, after countless hours of work, driving the V50 back home for the first time! The look on my dad's face when he saw it was priceless (and maybe a little worried). 😂 4. "Save Me, Gosha!": Amyn, in his natural habitat, jokingly begging for a rescue while I snap a quick photo. Just another day at FAPAUTO, where even the boss gets his hands dirty. 5. Ohlins Appreciation: Paying homage to the suspension gods at Ohlins. Their wizardry plays a huge role in how many of our builds at Fapauto handle on the track and the street.

After months of saving every spare dollar from my full-time job at the shop, persistent negotiation, and a deal that involved more sweat equity than cash, I finally convinced Amyn, the owner of FAPAUTO, to part with the V50. She wasn't much to look at then, but she was mine. Amyn became more than just my boss; he was a mentor and a friend, guiding me through those early days of the project. He saw my passion, even when I was running on fumes, juggling work, studies, and my dream of bringing this V50 back to life. My time at Fapauto was not just a job, it became the foundation of my dream to own a sleeper, and to one day be able to afford all the modifications I wanted to do to the V50 to make it into a powerful machine.

The Vision: Inspired by the Best

When it comes to inspiration, I've drawn from some of the most creative minds in the automotive world. Channels like Moose Droppings, Elevate, MyNameIdeasWereTaken, Shifting Lanes, Throtl, Donut Media, and Mighty Car Mods have fueled my imagination. These guys aren't just creating content; they're building communities and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.

A major visual inspiration came from Smicha Momm Thira's insane 2011 Volvo V50 build featured in Super Street Magazine. That widebody kit and aggressive stance? That's the dream!
